What is the most common cord entanglement in the fetus?

The most common cord entanglement position was nuchal cord, accounting for 84.7% (591/698) of cases. The percentages of trunk and limb entanglements were small, 4.7% and 4.2%, respectively. Interestingly, almost all of the multiple loops cases involved a nuchal cord.

What is the most common umbilical cord anomaly?

The most common abnormality of the umbilical cord is a single umbilical artery, which occurs in 0.5% to 2.5% of the pregnancies [1].

What is umbilical cord entanglement?

Umbilical cord entanglement is a feature which can mean either one or more loops of the umbilical cord encircling any part of the fetal body or two umbilical cords becoming entangled with each other 3. In the latter situation, it is a classical feature of a monochorionic-monoamniotic twin pregnancy.

What is a common issue that can occur with umbilical cord?

Umbilical cord conditions include the cord being too long or too short, not connecting well to the placenta or getting knotted or squeezed. These conditions can cause problems during pregnancy, labor and birth. If you have one of these conditions, your health care provider may find it during pregnancy on an ultrasound.
