Possible procedures include dilationand curettage (D&C) and biopsies.When setting up appointments for diagnostic testing or procedures, the medical administrativeassistant should verify the patient’s billing address and preferred method of contact, and then takethe following steps.1.Obtain a written order from the provider that describes the exact procedure to be performed. Ifa referral is needed, make sure you have a copy of that. This paperwork provides the necessarydocumentation for the test or procedure.2.If the patient’s insurance requires preauthorization, make sure to take care of this.Preauthorization involves notifying the health insurance plan that a patient needs a procedure,giving the insurance company the opportunity to determine whether the procedure ismedically necessary.
