For Android users, USB debugging mode is a feature that you can't skip to know. USB Debugging is especially appealing to developers as it allows them to run commands, transfer files to and from PC and do other critical tasks. Non-developers may also need to enable this feature when they want to root their Huawei device, install custom ROM, manage their Huawei phone using third party phone managers (for example, PanFone Data Transfer) that you run from your desktop. Hence, it is essential for Android users to know how to enable USB debugging on Android device.
Follow the steps below to debug your Huawei P40 series smartphone:
Step 1Turn on your Huawei P40 and navigate to the Settings option to find "System".
Step 2 Under System option, select About phone.
Step 3 Scroll down the screen and tap Build number several times until you see a message that says "You are now a developer!".
Step 4Select on the Back button and you will see the Developer options menu under Settings and select Developer options.
Step 5Turn on the "USB debugging" and "Allow ADB debugging in charge only mode" option.
Step 6You will see a message "Allow USB Debugging", click "OK".

Part 1. How to Enable USB Debugging on Huawei Device
First of all, after you plugged your Huawei device into computer with a USB cable, please scroll down from the top of the screen to check if the USB connection type is "Transfer files" or "MTP". If not, please tap it to change to one of them.
After that, please continue to check the corresponding instructions to enable USB debugging on Huawei devices according to your phone series as follows.
For Huawei Mate Series:
Step 1. Go to "Settings" > "System" on your phone.
(1) If you can see "Developer options", please skip to the next step.
(2) If you can not find "Developer options", please go to "About phone" > Tap "Build number" 7 times in rapid succession. Then back to the System page, you might find "Developer options" shows up.
Step 2. Tap "Developer options" and turn on "Developer options".
Step 3. Switch on "USB debugging", and tap "OK" when "Allow USB debugging?" prompt pops up.
For Android 6.0 and above, please continue to tap "Select USB configuration" and choose "Media Transfer Protocol(MTP)". If MTP option doesn't work, please try "RNDIS (USB Ethernet)", "Audio Source" or "MIDI" instead.
For Huawei Honor Series/P Series:
Step 1. Go to "Settings" on your phone.
(1) If you can find "Developer options", please skip to the next step.
(2) If you can't find "Developer options", please go to "About phone" > tap "Build number" 7 times in rapid succession. Then back to the Settings page, the "Developer options" will appears here.
Step 2. Tap "Developer options" and turn on "Developer options".
Step 3. Turn on "USB debugging" and tap "OK" when "Allow USB debugging?" prompt pops up.
For Android 6.0 and above, please continue to tap "Select USB configuration" and choose "Media Transfer Protocol(MTP)". If MTP option doesn't work, please try "RNDIS (USB Ethernet)", "Audio Source" or "MIDI" instead.
