Shared: According to textbook
Lifespan Development by Santrock, Shared environmental experiences are " siblings common experiences, such as their parents' personalities or intellectual orientation, the family's socioeconomic status, and the neighborhood in which the live". An example is I have 2 older brothers: We all come from the same biological parents and we have experienced the same set of personalities, habits, ethics and virtues from them. We have similar experiences with our mother sense of humor and our fathers
strong work ethic.
Nonshared: According to textbook Lifespan Development by Santrock, nonshsared environmental experiences "consist of a child's unique experiences, both within the family and outside the family, that are not shared with a sibling". An example for me is with my two older brothers, the did not have the same experiences as I did in several ways, such as, my oldest brother was gone to college when we moved to a new neighborhood, thus different friendships and experiences were had
by me that he did not, as he had different experiences at college that I did not. Also, my brothers are significantly older than I was and were both gone to college while I was still very young of age, so I essentially was like an only child, thus, not having as many experiences with another sibling as they did.
