Born in Seattle to dramatic-arts teacher parents, Alison moved to Los Angeles at the age of five. With her newly single mother, Alison moved frequently around the city. She developed a strong love for the fantastic literary worlds of CS Lewis, EB White, Lewis Carroll and Charles Dickens, while becoming a passionate author in her own right.

Alison also immersed herself in classical music, Motown, Aretha Franklin, swing bands, Ella Fitzgerald, Elton John, Louis Armstrong, the Beatles, Technicolor movies and classic 1950's television.

After teaching herself to play piano, Alison increasingly invested her internal narratives into song form. She found solace in the melodic melancholia of new global British bands Aqualung, Radiohead, Coldplay and Keane, etc. She was also moved by the diatonic minimalism of Philip Glass and the transportive allure of Icelandic music (Bjork, Sigur Ros.) Inspired, Alison developed the sound of A Fine Frenzy – hypnotic piano arrangements under classic American melody fused into irresistible, atmospheric songs with the power to reach around the world.

A Fine Frenzy is currently touring with Sean Lennon and Rufus Wainwright. She is also part of the VH1 "You Oughta Know" tour with Brandi Carlile.

Die am 23. Dezember 1985 in Seattle geborene und in Los Angeles aufgewachsene Alison Sudol ist wohl das, was man gemeinhin als Multitalent bezeichnet. Nicht nur, dass sie die High School im Alter von 16 Jahren mit einer Empfehlung abschließt, als Tochter zweier Schauspiellehrer wird ihr auch das Talent, in fremde Rollen zu schlüpfen, in die Wiege gelegt.

Außerdem entwickelt Alison schon früh eine Leidenschaft für Literatur. Sie interessiert sich für Schriftsteller wie C.S. Lewis, E.B. White, Lewis Carroll oder Charles Dickens und beginnt, ihre Gedanken aufzuschreiben. Sie bringt sich selbst bei, Klavier zu spielen und vertont ihre melancholischen Geschichten von Apfelbäumen, Tagträumen, vom Sternezählen und Kaffeetrinken. Ihr Musikprojekt nennt sie A Fine Frenzy.

Schon bald ist klar, dass das Scheidungskind vollkommene Erfüllung in ihrer Musik findet. Diese ist zum Teil inspiriert von den Helden ihrer Kindheit, Aretha Franklin, Louis Armstrong und Ella Fitzgerald. Aber auch Einflüsse von Radiohead, Keane, Sigur Rós und Björk machen sich in ihrem Piano-lastigen Singer/Songwriter-Pop bemerkbar. Eines ihrer Demotapes fällt Jason Flom vom Plattenlabel EMI in die Hände. Mit der unmittelbaren Konsequenz, dass er Alison unter Vertrag nimmt.

A Fine Frenzy ist im Vorprogramm der Stooges zu sehen, bevor sie Ende 2006 mit den Produzenten Lukas Burton (Paul McCartney, James Blunt, Dido) und Hal Cragin (Iggy Pop, Rufus Wainwright) ins Studio geht. Unterstützt wird sie bei den Aufnahmen für ihr Debütalbum außerdem von dem preisgekrönten Streicher-Arrangeur David Campbell (Beck), dem Gitarristen Dave Levita (Alanis Morissette) und dem Schlagzeuger Joey Waronker (R.E.M., Smashing Pumpkins).

Noch bevor "One Cell In The Sea" im Februar 2008 in Deutschland veröffentlicht wird, tauchen ihre Songs im Soundtrack von sage und schreibe sieben US-Serien auf. Darunter Dr. House, Brothers & Sisters und CSI:NY, in der Alison für eine Folge die Rolle der Nova Kent übernimmt.

Fortentwicklung ist ihr Antriebsmotor. Anlässlich des zweiten Albums "Bomb In A Birdcage" erläutert sie: "So bin ich, und das ist meine Sicht der Welt. Mein Horizont hat sich erweitert, aber er ist immer noch der gleiche."

A Fine Frenzy was the initial recording name of American singer, songwriter, pianist and actor Alison Sudol (born December 23, 1984 in Seattle, Washington). The first studio album One Cell In The Sea was released on 17 July 2007. The first single, “Almost Lover”, peaked at number 25 on US Billboard’s Hot Adult Contemporary Tracks chart. There have been no releases since 2012. On 24 November 2017, Alison Sudol released “Enough Honey”, the debut single under her own name; an album under her own name followed in 2018.

In an interview with www.spinner.com, Sudol shared how she came up with the name “(I) had a bunch of books open on a table, “a fine frenzy” jumped off a page of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ [Shakespeare] and it was just right, though every now and then I wonder if it’s a bit … flowery.”

The second album, Bomb in a Birdcage, was released on 8 September 2009. A third album, Pines, was released in 2012.
