Lady in black bedeutung

Lady in black

He finds himself on a lonely Sunday morning in the winter on a windy day when he meets her. The Lady in Black is Death. He asks the question; how did my life end up like this. How can death be at my doorstep. Destruction lays around him from a fight he cannot win. He is all alone and has no wish to live. He wants to self destruct. The destruction lays around me from a fight I can not win. He sees no choice but to commit suicide. This is his battle. The want to die is his foe. All men die and will fear God in the end. Death meets him face to face he makes his choice. Give me horses To trample down my enemy. Horses are the drugs (LSD, Cocaine, Heroine)he uses to kill himself. The enemy is himself, the demons inside him. He must kill himself to get rid of the pain and hurt. Drugs will make the pain go away. He hates life and wants to die. As all man will die and fear God in the end. As he nears death he says to her take me, let me die. Let me lay with you. She would not think of battle. As He faces death, he realizes there is more to life and gains the courage to over come his wasteful thoughts and to live and keep going. Courage to walk alone. Each time he thinks of death his heart is strong and says no. Trust your thoughts and know I will not take you until I'm ready. As you meet death, or become troubled, alone, you overcome those thoughts and become wiser and stronger. A will to live. Life is the prize for having the courage to live.

She came to me one morning
One lonely Sunday morning
Her long hair flowing in the mid-winter wind
I know not how she found me
For in darkness I was walking
And destruction lay around me
From a fight I could not win
Ah, ah, ah

She asked me name my foe then
I said the need within some men
To fight and kill their brothers without thought of men or God
And I begged her give me horses
To trample down my enemies
So eager was my passion to devour this waste of life
Ah, ah, ah

But she would not think of battle that
Reduces men to animals
So easy to begin and yet impossible to end
For she the mother of all men
Had counciled me so wisely that
I feared to walk alone again
And asked if she would stay
Ah, ah, ah

Oh, lady, lend your hand, I cried
Oh, let me rest here at your side
Have faith and trust in me, she said and filled my heart with life
There is no strength in numbers
I've no such misconceptions
But when you need me be assured I won't be far away
Ah, ah, ah

Thus having spoke she turned away
And though I found no words to say
I stood and watched until I saw her black cloak disappear
My labor is no easier
But now I know I'm not alone
I find new heart each time I think upon that windy day
And if one day she comes to you
Drink deeply from her words so wise
Take courage from her as your prize and say hello for me
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah

Dauer 4:27 min

Lady in black bedeutung

Songfacts®:

  • From the liner notes of the Salisbury LP: "Lady in Black, written early in November in Bradford, was inspired by the vision of an unknown girl."

  • In Cheltenham, England, about 20 people saw a mysterious "Lady In Black" in the years 1882 to 1889. In Texas a story is told that the lady in black was the wife of a rich man from Spain that was hung one day. Since that day, her ghost visits the area near Highway 281 in Alice, Texas. Many drivers reported that they have seen a mysterious woman, a lady in black. >>

  • In his interview with Songfacts, the song's writer, Ken Hensley, addressed the question about the real-life experience that inspired this song.

"It's true, I did see this young lady and she was dressed in black and her hair was blowing around in the 'mid-winter wind,'" said Hensley. "But she wasn't 'coming to me,' she was just walking up the street outside of my hotel in northwest England during a tour.

I just picked up my guitar and let my over-active imagination run with this vision and, as is often the case, let the lyric go wherever it wanted to go."

  • David Byron usually sang Heep's songs, but Hensley sang this one. Hensley has stated that this was because Byron didn't like "Lady in Black" to such a degree that he refused to perform on it. After producer Gerry Bron suggested Hensley sing it himself, he did so. The song ended up being one of Heep's best and most loved.

  • According to Sweden Rock Magazine #16, the guitar parts of the song were so simple, two of the recording's four acoustic guitars were played by roadies. >>

Warum sang Ken Hensley Lady in Black?
