I have the same error "Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with given CA certificates", which gives me an error contacting server. I had just finished all the tutorial games and had spent a few hours on the first flu virus puzzle, but when I finally gave up and quitted the program, I was unable to get back on-line again. I'm using Leopard on an iMac. What do I do to get back on-line, Help!!!

SSL certificate expired today (4/26/2012), it needs to be renewed.

I'm assuming they are using same SSL certificate they use on the website, try going to the //fold.it/portal/, you will get certificate error.

It was suggested in global chat to change the date back to bypass this issue. HOWEVER; doing this *may* disqualify you from the puzzles you are working on !! DO NOT CHANGE THE DATE !!
I did this and possibly lost all
my work, can any of the developers please confirm or deny this ?
Can this 'disqualification' be undone ?

The website is not updating the scores for any puzzle.
# 545 expires at 5:00 AM, today, University of Washington time. I am certain this issue won't be resolved before then. Is the deadline for that puzzle being extended until after the problem is fixed? I jumped a few ranks, overnight, and don't want to not be credited for it.

Same error as the others and same concern as Boots. Also lose any ability to set scripts while at work losing and additional 10 hours. Not good.

My client was open all night running a script.
I never got the error message, but my recorded score is 41 points lower than my score when the puzzle expired.
grrr!

All, the issue is understood and the issue is global.
- Scores are not updating on the server, local clients are still running and scoring.
- New clients cannot log on due to the certificate expiration
- New clients COULD log on if the date is set back by a few days, but this will likely void your running client's scores. So for your own sake, do not do this. Also, old puzzles will show up as 'expired' when starting new clients this way.
It is advised to leave your clients running, not change puzzles and wait for the certificate issue to be resolved. Most likely the score you have on your client will show up on the website as soon as the certificate is updated.
Please do not add your 'me too' posts unless there is significant technical news to report.
The problem has been reported to Seth Cooper by mail this morning CET by myself and I'm sure they will fix it as soon as possible. Please be patient, we're all in the same boat.
Thanks.

Hey Tatapu, sorry to hear that, Could you provide some extra information such as what OS you're currently using? Also was this with a client downloaded yesterday from the site?

Is your system clock correct? Please make sure that your Windows clock is set correctly, since if it isn't, your computer will think the CA cert is expired/not valid yet.
Alternatively, are you using an old copy of Foldit? If you just came back to Foldit while using a copy from several years ago, you may have to re-install Foldit.

Same bug for me.
Fold.it loaded from site, installed & correctly entered name/pass. Got "Oops." :(
"Oops." = "PEER CERTIFICATE CANNOT..." and so on.
I tried to install (import) certificates from the
fold.it site. Sucessfully, and again "Oops." - FAILED.
Found this case and join to it.

Hi all.
Opened this again, as it is happening to me as well as several friends trying to log in online to play for the first time. Message as soon as I click Play Online is: "Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with given CA certificates: Error contacting server."
Could anyone help with some steps to try solve this?
Using Windows 8, fully updated.
ESET smart security, updated version 8.
I have tried disabling firewall, as well as reinstalling.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Please let me know if more information is required. Can't wait to start!

I haven't fully thought through the authentication issues but it would seem to be a good idea if people could download the certificates from the web site and install them by hand, instead of relying on the built-in client to download them (which requires valid certificates to download the valid certificates).
Also, 10 year certs would be better than 2 year certs. :D

Sorry for the delayed reply! Can you tell us when you're getting this message? Do you get the error when you try to log into the Foldit application, or later, after you've entered a Foldit puzzle?

I'm having the "Peer certificate" error, as of last (i.e. Saturday) night. Fold It app had been working well up through...very early Sat. morning.
Haven't done anything to the clock, and I verified the time online at OnlineClock.net. (Fun site! :) )
OS: Windows 10
(Probably don't need this, but using Firefox 68.7.0esr.)
It happens when I've opened the app and am trying to log in.
I'm making do with the offline option, but I'd like to get back online.
Ideas, please? Any other info you need?
Many thx, and stay safe!

Getting "Peer certificate cannot be authenticated with given CA certificates: Error contacting server." when trying to "Play online"...I checked, my date is properly set. Any way to download these certificates ?
